We’re Saying Goodbye… But There's Still Time to Learn
When the Ground Shifts: How Trimble Left Its Certified Trainers Behind
For many years, SketchUp’s success was deeply tied to its community — especially the dedicated trainers, educators, and specialists who brought the software into classrooms, studios, firms, and workshops across the world. I’ve been proud to be one of them, building LearnSketchUp.ca to serve Canadian designers and learners who needed a human, practical, and creative approach to mastering 3D modeling.
I want to be honest with you. One of the reasons I’ve decided to close LearnSketchUp.ca is because Trimble, the company behind SketchUp, quietly abandoned its network of Certified Trainers — the very people who helped build their global user community. Without notice or transition, they replaced us with their own internal academy, leaving many of us — who invested years creating high-quality courses and resources — without support, recognition, or even a voice.
For someone like me who poured heart and soul into teaching, it’s been deeply disappointing. I’ve held on as long as I could to offer personalized, real-world training that goes far beyond the basics. But without industry backing and with fewer opportunities to reach new learners, the time has come to move on.
That’s why this is your last chance to join any of the courses, access your material, and benefit from the kind of learning that’s becoming harder to find.
Important Reminder for Current Students 📣
If you’ve started a course but haven’t finished it, this is your final window to do so. You have until August 31st to complete your lessons, access course content, and download any materials you want to keep.
When the Ground Shifts: How Trimble Left Its Certified Trainers Behind
A few years ago, Trimble — the company behind SketchUp — launched its own internal training platform, SketchUp Campus. With this move, they began to produce and host official learning content themselves, bypassing the network of certified trainers they had previously supported.
What this meant for many of us was clear:
- No more visibility
- No more official collaboration
- No more meaningful role in SketchUp’s future educational strategy
- Left in the Dust 💔
There was no transition plan, no partnership proposal, and little acknowledgment of the trainers who had spent years advocating for the platform.
Many of us built entire businesses around delivering quality SketchUp education. We translated the software’s potential into real-world workflows and user-friendly lessons — often in ways that SketchUp Campus still doesn’t address today.
To put it bluntly: we were left behind.
Why It Still Matters
While Trimble’s in-house system may work for some, it lacks the nuance, feedback, and flexibility of live teaching and mentorship. A video can show you where to click — but it won’t tell you why your project isn’t working, or how to adapt to your specific workflow. That’s what independent trainers do best. That’s what LearnSketchUp.ca has always been about.
Before the Doors Close ⏳
Starting today, everything is 50% off. You have three months to finish your lessons, and download your materials. After that, it’s all going offline.
Still Here to Help
Though the site is closing, I’m not going anywhere. I’ll continue offering services such as:
- Permit and concept drawings
- Residential design and visualization
- Product development and 3D workflows
That’s why this is your last chance to join any of the courses, access your material, and benefit from the kind of learning that’s becoming harder to find.
